Garland MacArthur Morgan, age 79 of Dayton Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at his home. He was born on Dayton Mountain, on May 10, 1944, the son of the late Walter Lee Morgan and Alma (Reed) Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Garland Jeffrey Chapko; his great-grandson, James Engel; his two sisters, Deanie Solomon and Pearl Brown; and his two brothers, Dewey Morgan and Harvey Morgan.
Garland was born and raised on Dayton Mountain. He graduated from Rhea Central High School. He moved his family to Ionia, MI in the early 70’s to pursue a career as a millwright at General Motors in Lansing, MI. He attended Lansing Community College in Michigan, where he earned an Associate’s Degree. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany as a military policeman. He enjoyed working on old cars and watching westerns.
He is survived by his son, Scott (Kim) Morgan of Poland, ME; his three daughters, Garla (David) Camarillo of Dayton Mountain, JoAnne (Oscar) Sandoval of Dayton, and Patricia (Robert) Smith of Ionia, MI; his 15 grandchildren, Katrina (Jason) Yuhas of Spring City, Tia Morgan of Battle Creek, MI, Jessica (Mitch) Jones of West Bloomfield, MI, Jillian Chapko of Sheridan, MI, Cole and Bryson Camarillo, of Dayton Mountain, Travis Smith and Kristyn (Bobby) Compo, of Ionia, MI, Jose, Dakota, Joshua, and Riley Sandoval, all of Dayton, Tony, Abi and Annie LeChance, all of Poland, ME; his 12 great-grandchildren, Eric (Hannah)Yuhas of Chattanooga, Victoria (Jon) Lyons of Kingston, Mariah Yuhas of Dayton, Chole and Hannah Smith, of Ionia, MI, Ava and River Jones, of West Bloomfield, MI, Walker Reed Smith of Sheridan, MI, Carter Engle and Joey McMillian, of Battle Creek, MI, McKenzie and Madison Compo, of Ionia, MI; his three great-great-grandchildren, Olivia and Aubrie Lyons, Addalynn Brown; his sister, Carolyn (Jan) Dillard of Evensville Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services with US Army Military Honors for Garland will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
