Frederick George Bedford, age 91, of Dayton, TN, formerly of Hornell, NY, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at his home at the Courtyard in Dayton. He was born October 2, 1918 in Williamsport, PA to the late Tom and Ethel (Foulk) Bedford. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Barbara Marie (Booth) Bedford.
Fred lived in Hornell, NY until moving to Dayton in 1973. He received his Bachelors Degree at Houghton College in Houghton, NY and Masters Degree at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. Fred taught French and Spanish at high schools in Houghton, NY and Hornell, NY and then at Bryan College in Dayton.
Fred served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in the European theatre. He was a member of the Morgantown Baptist Church in Dayton, TN and Hillside Baptist Church in Hornell, NY where he had served as trustee, deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife Mayme (Kerley) Bedford of Dayton, sons, Tom (Carolyn) Bedford of Hornell, NY and Frank (Barb) Sheddan of Evensville, TN, daughters Barbara (Herman) Posey of Hixson, TN, and Beverly (Bruce) Hatch of Emory, VA, brother-in-law Jay Paul Christian of Williamsport, PA, sister-in-law Elizabeth Booth of Pittston, PA, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with military honors for Fred will be held Friday evening at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tom McManus officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Funeral services in Hornell, NY will be Monday at 12:00 noon at the Hillside Baptist Church with Rev. George Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Fred will be laid to rest in the Hornell Rural Cemetery in Hornell, NY.
