Ernie Mitchell Garrison, age 84, of Spring City, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 14, 2020 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. He was born on March 3, 1936 in Cumberland County, the son of the late Wilburn and Myrtle (Mathis) Garrison. Ernie was also preceded in death by his son, Keith Garrison; his two sisters, Ava Hinch and Cora Sherrill; and one brother, Lonnie Garrison.
Ernie was a former veteran of the United States Marines. He was a retired Electrician and Maintenance Supervisor during his career. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bird watching, animals, building, cooking, and gardening. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved watching the Tennessee Vols. He was a Member of The American Legion Post 203 and volunteered with the Rhea County Coordinating Committee for many years helping veterans to and from their medical appointments in Nashville and Murfreesboro. In his later years, he was the office manager for the Rhea County Coordinating Committee. Ernie was a kind and quiet man who will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Louise Garrison of Spring City; his two daughters, Sharon (Bill) Conkle of Hampton, Georgia and Connie (Wayne) Matthew of Dayton; his son, Alan Garrison of Spring City; two sisters, Gennell Collett of Virginia and Barbara Hamilton of Rockwood; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many much loved nieces and nephews.
