Erma Tennessee Thurman, age 97 of Dayton, died Tuesday February 22, 2011 at Life Care Center of Rhea County. She was born September 22, 1913 in Baxter, TN to the late Monroe and Lillie (Jones) Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years William Allen Thurman, sons Floyd Odell Thurman and William Thomas Thurman, brothers Ernest, Jesse, James and Junior Thomas, sisters Effie Ingle, Ruby Miller and Ivadell Conley, grandsons Randy Thurman and Darren Aslinger, great-grandchildren Whitney Boone, Randall and Kendall Thurman, sons-in-law Willard Hall and Joe Ferguson and daughter-in-law Sammie Thurman.
She was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Sale Creek, TN. She loved the Lord and took great pride in studying and reading the entire Bible numerous times. She loved her family and taught them to love one another. She was a great cook, seamstress and quilter.
She is survived by her sons Hoyal Thurman of Sale Creek and John (Joyce) Thurman of Cookeville, daughters Virginia Ferguson, Aileen (Melvin) Wilkey and Jane (Neal) Stultz of Dayton, Anna (Bill) Aslinger of Sale Creek and June (Jim) Poole of Evensville, TN, daughter-in-law Norene Thurman of Dayton, brother, Arthur Thomas of Evensville and sister Imogene Suttles of Dayton, 19 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Erma will be held Friday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald and Rev. Darrell Walden officiating. Burial will be in the Smith-Wilkey Cemetery in Spring City.
