Edna Norene Thurman age 89 of Dayton passed away peacefully Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Ascension Saint Thomas West Medical Center in Nashville. She was born in Dayton on December 8, 1931 the daughter of the late Whit and Robbie (Newman) Harris. She was also preceded in death by her husband Odell Thurman, son Steve Thurman and two brothers, J.B. Harris and Alvin Harris.
Norene was a graduate of Rhea Central High School and a resident of Red Bank for over forty years and in Dayton for almost fifty years. She was an active member of New Union Baptist Church and Bible Study Class.
She is survived by her two sons, Stan (Shonda) Thurman of Mowbray Mountain and Brian (Brigette) Thurman of Ooltewah, four brothers, Colonel (Odessa) Harris of Dayton, Bill (Charlotte) Harris of Dayton, Tom (Pat) Harris of Lebanon, Ronnie (Gloria) Harris of Dayton, two sisters, Betty Pendergrass of Evensville and Eva (Newt) Layman of Dayton. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Allen Thurman, Josh Overturf, Daniel (Ashleigh) Overturf, Caroline Thurman and Collin Thurman, great-grandchildren, Tenley Overturf, Tyler Overturf, and Parker Thurman.
Private family funeral services will be held Monday, December 14, 2020 in the funeral home chapel with her pastor, Dr. Danny Ruehling officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Spence Cemetery.
