Dr. Doyse Thompson

Dr. Doyse Melvin Thompson, age 84 went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday January 25, 2016 at Life Care Center of Rhea County. He was born in Lawrence County, TN on April 18, 1931 to the late Frank and Lula Mae (Wilson) Thompson. He is also preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years Mildred (Womble) Thompson and his brother “Curley” Thompson.
Dr. Thompson received his doctorate in ministry from the Covington Seminary and served as a missionary with his wife in the West Indies. He was a pastor for Garrison Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Centerville, TN, Monroe St. Baptist Church, Wadesboro Baptist Church, New Hope Baptist Church, Trinity Baptist Church and Oak Ridge Baptist Church. He enjoyed being a ham radio operator. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a Master Mason.
He is survived by his three sons; Tony (Roxanne) Thompson of Pikeville, Tim (Odetta) Thompson of Dayton, Tobet (Nancy) Thompson of Dayton, his brother Brown (Willie Ruth) Thompson of Lawrenceburg, eight grandchildren; Flint Thompson, J.D. Thompson, Matt Thompson, Tabitha Thompson, Lindsay Marler, Kelsie Calbaugh, Casey Poole and Todd Aikman, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Dr. Thompson will be held Thursday at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Milton Knox and Rev. Stanley Faulkner officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in Garrison Cemetery.
