Douglas Liggett

October 30, 1948 — April 26, 2009

Douglas Earl Liggett age 60 of Dayton died Sunday morning April 26, 2009 at the Rhea Medical Center. He was born in South Bend, IN on October 30, 1948 the son of the late Earl and Juanita (Price) Liggett.

Doug graduated from Indiana Vocational Technical College with a degree in engineering. He resided in North Liberty, IN until 1990 when he moved to Dayton. He was employed with United Technologies as a Senior Process Engineer and traveled as a vendor for Ford and GM and was also a design engineer for Saturn. He was a statistical process engineer in Indiana for seven years and a quality control engineer for 17 years before re-locating to Dayton.

He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Indiana where he served as youth leader for seven years. He enjoyed model railroading, NASCAR, photography, remote controlled model airplanes, wood working, drawing and antique restoration. Doug was also a member of the Chattanooga Society of Model Engineers for ten years and was the recipient of the Eagle Award on June 12, 2004. He was a dialysis patient for sixteen years at the Dayton DCI.

Doug is survived by his wife of 36 years, Gayle (Schrader) Liggett, daughter, Rochelle (Dale) Jenkins, son, Ryan Douglas Liggett all of Dayton, grandchildren, Chase and Crystal Jenkins and Misty and Nick Couch and great-grandchildren, Kaleigh, Kylie and Abigail Couch. He is also survived by his brother, Brian (Sharon) Liggett of South Bend, IN and his sister, Patricia (Ron) Holderread of North Liberty, IN.

Funeral services will be held Thursday evening at 7:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Breeden officiating.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the Vanderwall Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm.
