Douglas “Doug” Crawley, age 71 of Dayton, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. He was born in Rome, GA, on January 15, 1952, the son of the late Olden Thomas Crawley and Geraldine (Burchard) Crawley. He was also preceded in death by his son, Robby Beard; and his daughter, Carrie Coffelt.
Doug lived in Rhea County all of his life. He was employed as a boilermaker and was a member of Boilermakers Union Local 454.
Doug will be remembered as a man whose presence brought warmth, joy, and love to all who knew him. He was a husband with unwavering affection and thoughtful gestures showing the depth of his love for his wife. He was also a loving father and loving grandfather leaving a mark on all of us.
He had a passion for fishing. It was a metaphor for his approach to life – patient, thoughtful and always willing to wait for the perfect moment. Alongside his wife, they found immense happiness in watching their kids and grandkids grow and flourish.
Doug is survived by his wife, Candy (Minter) Crawley of Dayton; his four children, Shawn (Amy) Crawley, Beth (Brian) Huff, Nicole (Tanner) Finnell, and Nick (Tiffany) Coffelt; his eight grandchildren, Austin Thurman, Chance Thurman, Ethan Thurman, Micheala Huff, Delaney Huff, Karinn Crawley, Maggie Finnell, and Emily Finnell; his three siblings, Bill (Diane) Crawley, Linette (Bill) Isham, and Phyllis (Jim) Alsip.
Funeral services for Doug will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Rusty Revis officiating. He will be laid to rest in Rogers Family Cemetery in Dunlap, TN.
