Dorothy Chapman, age 96 of Knoxville, formerly of Dayton, died late Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. She was born April 19, 1922 in Dayton to the late Charlie Harrison Brooks and Samantha Bell (Turner) Brooks and was also preceded in death by her husband Billie R. Chapman.
Dorothy lived in Knoxville for the past 35 years and previously lived in Dayton where she was the manager at Goody’s. She enjoyed playing the piano, cooking, yardwork and shopping. Dorothy was a member of the South Dayton Church of God.
She is survived by her son Craig (Ginger) Chapman of Knoxville; her daughter Sally (Billy) Phelps of Powell; her four grandchildren, Jason (Brandynn) Phelps, USAF, Whitestown, NJ; Chris (Cynthia) Chapman of Lenoir City; Carole (George) Friar and Aly (Jordan) Kiser, both of Knoxville; her thirteen great-grandchildren, Mason Albritton, Jaydn Phelps, Ellisia Phelps, Makayla Short, Maggie Phelps, Brianna Rice, Chris Chapman, Isaac Friar, Anna Friar, Ben Friar, Joey Friar, Julia Friar and Elsie Kiser; three great-great-grandchildren, Riley Rice, Bentley Rice and Jade Rice; many nieces and nephews; and her special friend Evelyn Hayes of Knoxville.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Steve Travis officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Billie R. Chapman in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton.
