Doreen Lavonne Smith, age 85 of Pigeon Forge, passed peacefully into heaven with her family by her side on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Smoky Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Pigeon Forge. She was born on June 25, 1938, in Troy, Michigan, the daughter of the late William and Ella (Milarch) Lange. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Herman Lee Smith, who passed away in 2003.
Doreen lived in Michigan, Indiana, and Arizona before moving to the Sevierville and Pigeon Forge area in 2003. She was a godly woman and pastor’s wife for 55 years. She faithfully served God, worked with her husband in his church ministry, and loved the people in the Church of God congregations where they served.
Doreen is survived by her son, Rev. Darryl (Cheryl) Smith of Covington, Georgia, who was the former pastor of the South Dayton Church of God; her daughter, Cindy (Scott) Lee of Maggie Valley, North Carolina; her three grandchildren, Alec (Sarah) Smith, Baylee (Joshua) Alley, and Jonathan Lee; her two great-grandchildren, Juniper Smith and Hawthorn Smith; and her two nieces, Charlene Steiner, and Valentine (George) Ripsom.
A Gathering Time for Doreen will be held in the funeral home parlor on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with her son, Rev. Darryl Smith, officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Rhea Memory Gardens in a private family service.
