David Arthur Patterson, age 73, died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at his home. He was born December 31, 1938 in River Rouge, MI to the late Dave Henry and Sarah (Edwards) Patterson.
A resident of Dayton since 1998, he lived in Enfield, Connecticut for 22 years and prior to that in Bay City, MI.
He started working at Combustion Engineering (Wickes Boiler) in Saginaw, MI after high school and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Delta College in University Center, MI in 1974. He moved with his family to Enfield, CT to take a position in the engineering offices of Combustion in Windsor, CT. He traveled the world in this capacity, working in 26 countries. He was a non-destructive testing expert and taught classes in this field. He worked for Combustion Engineering (Alstom) as a senior quality assurance engineer for 37 years before retiring in 1994. After retirement, he was a consultant for Alstom for 12 years.
He was a member of the American Welding Society, American Society of Quality Control, American Society of Non-Destructive Testing and the Knights of Columbus for many years.
He was a member of Saint Bridget Catholic Church in Dayton.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Carolyn (Matuszewski) Patterson, two sons Robert (Margaret) Patterson of Dayton, and James (Denise) Patterson of Cave Creek, AZ, two daughters Karen Patterson of Amston Lake, CT and Janet Patterson of Dayton, sister Sherrell McCafferty of Bay City, MI, three grandchildren Rebecca, Amber “Brin” and Colin Patterson, all of Dayton.
Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 12:00 noon at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church with Fr. Sam Sturm officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Bridget’s Catholic Church Building Fund or Knights of Columbus Council 11424, either of which may be mailed to the church at 320 Walnut Grove Church Rd., Dayton, TN 37321.
The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Sunday after 4:00 pm followed by a Scripture Service at 6:00 pm.
