David Phillip Small age 87 of Dayton, TN died at his home August 24, 2010. He was born in Washington, D.C. on September 18, 1922 the son of the late Thomas and Emma (Brown) Small. He was a resident of Sonoma, CA for 37 years until moving to Dayton 12 years ago.
David served his country with the US Navy during WWII. He was a graduate of Edinboro State College in Oraville, PA and retired as a 5th -8th grade school teacher with the Elverno school system in Boyes Hot Springs, CA. David was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Sonoma and was also an accomplished artist.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Irene (Goins) Small of Dayton, TN, son, Steven Brink of Seattle, WA, step-son Jeffery Milkie of Oraville, CA, daughter, Pamela Holmes of Franklin, TN, two step-daughters, Terry Anderson and Jimene Wingate both of Windsor, CA, two sisters, Marian Hardin of Cincinnati, OH, Martha Fishkin of Chico, CA, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with military honors for David will be held Saturday morning at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clankston Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton, TN.
