Colby Zane Mickel, age 14, of Dayton, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Rhea Medical Center in Dayton. He was born on February 9, 2005 in Chattanooga. Colby was preceded in death by his grandfather, Johnny Mickel of Dayton; his papaw, Joe Yearwood of Dayton; and papaw Bobby Burke of Rossville, GA.
Colby lived in Dayton all of his life and was a freshman at Rhea County High School. Colby was an incredibly talented and intelligent young man. He was an expert video game player, active in sports and loved hunting and anything outdoors. Colby was a devoted Tennessee Vols fan and could always be found looking sharp in his orange and white. He loved his family and especially his little sister, Layla. He was such a prankster and they always had the best of times when they were together. Colby has more friends and family then we can count and he will be greatly missed until we all meet again. “We love you Colby”.
He is survived by his father, Johnathon (Jessica) Mickel of Dayton; his mother, Erica (Raun) Alley of Soddy Daisy; sister, Layla Ann Mickel of Soddy Daisy; stepbrothers, Randal Evan Alley of Soddy Daisy, Spencer Staggs and Mason Staggs both of Dayton; grandmothers, Margaret Yearwood of Dayton and Frances Burke of Rossville, GA; aunts, Amanda (Aaron) Gravett of Spring City and Jamie (Jared) Price of Athens; uncle, Jamie Burke of Rossville, GA; and Nany B. and Papaw B. of Dayton.
Funeral services for Colby will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Sneed officiating. He will be laid to rest in Buttram Cemetery in Dayton followed by a white dove release.
