Chester Smith, age 74 of Graysville, passed away on Tuesday morning, July 28, 2021 at Rhea Medical Center. He was born on February 22, 1947 in the Pitts Gap Community on Graysville Mountain, the son of the late Howard Smith and Emma (Kizzar) Smith. Chester was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Melvin Smith and Arthur Smith.
Chester was born and raised in the Pitts Gap Community on Graysville Mountain, Bledsoe Co. and then lived in Graysville. He was a Bledsoe Co. High School graduate, served his country with the US Army in Viet Nam and was awarded The Purple Heart. Chester was a retired welder with combustion for over 30 years. He was a faithful member of the Sale Creek Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda (Goins) Smith of Graysville; his daughters, Barbie (Jason) Dulaney and Dana (Kenny) Morgan, both of Dayton; stepdaughter, Tina (Andrew) Matthews of Montana; adoptive daughter, Diane (Frank) Hutcheson of Soddy Daisy; stepson, Tracy French of Spring City; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Leroy (Nancy) Smith of Pitts Gap Community and Junior Smith of Dayton; and sister, Beulah (Bobby) Hudson of Graysville Mountain.
Funeral services with military honors for Chester will be held Sunday afternoon, August 1st, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the Sale Creek Church of God with Bishop Terry Bolton officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Hickory Grove Cemetery at Brayton Mountain followed by a white dove release.
