Charles Ola Pelfrey, age 85, of Dayton, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019 at his home in Dayton. He was born on July 5, 1934 in Dayton, TN, the son of the late Ollie Jackson and Lenis (Bridwell) Pelfrey.
Toad lived in Rhea County all of his life. He worked in a sawmill for many years and worked in maintenance for 27 years at Kayser Roth. Toad enjoyed camping and was a member of the Valley Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary “Frances” Couch Pelfrey of Dayton; his two sons, Richard Pelfrey of Evensville and Jeff (Ladonna) Pelfrey of Dayton; five daughters, Charlene (Leon) Reed of Evensville, Judy (Shane) Reed of Decatur, Janet Pelfrey of Soddy Daisy, Margaret (Francesco) Cimino of Italy and Melinda (Brandon) Gates of Dyersburg; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lonnie (Denise) Pelfrey of Evensville and David (Darlene) Pelfrey of Spring City; and sisters, Christine (late Robert) Gunter of Evensville, Hazel (Bob) Cobb of Ringgold, GA and Maxine (Jerome) Spitzer of Sweetwater.
Graveside funeral services for Toad will be held Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Smyrna Cemetery in Evensville with Preacher Jim Schafer officiating.
