Carrie Lee Maddux, age 85 of Evensville, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Rhea Medical Center. She was born on January 3, 1937, in Evensville, the daughter of the late Lee and Ruby (Pelfrey) Roberts. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bobby” Maddux, Jr.; her sister, Mildred Cochran; her sister-in-law, Linda Lake; and her infant brother, Jonathan Roberts.
Carrie lived in Evensville all her life and graduated from Rhea Central High School in 1955 as the salutatorian. She received her teaching degree from Tennessee Wesleyan University and her Bachelor’s degree from Bryan College. She was a much-loved teacher at Spivey Elementary, Evensville Elementary, Old Washington Elementary, and Frazier Elementary until her retirement in 1997. She also served as principal at Old Washington Elementary while she was a teacher there. She was a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association and enjoyed gardening and cooking.
She is survived by her two daughters, Tamela (Donnie) Whitted of Decatur and Rebecca (Tracy) Tumlin of Evensville; her eight grandchildren, Ryan (Courtney) Maddux, CariAnn Meadows, KristaLee Meadows, Michelle (Raymond) McVay, Adam (Alexis) Meadows, Andrew Meadows, Luke (Ashley) Meadows, and Breanna (Keegan) Sullivan; and her 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her nine siblings, Edna (Kenneth) Stephens of Lenoir City, Margaret (Mike) Nacci of Hollywood, FL, Mable (Glen) Varner of Evensville, Jerry (Dottie) Roberts of Dayton, Clyde (Dana) Roberts of Chattanooga, Brenda (Alvin) Lewis of Dayton, Ruth (Russell) Goins of Evensville, Rita (Scott) Hayman of Evensville, and Michael (Donna) Roberts of Dayton. She is also survived by two brothers- in-law, Jerry (Margie) Maddux and Wayne (Janie) Maddux.
Funeral services for Carrie will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Corey Roberts officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Rhea Memory Gardens followed by a white dove release.
