Billy Ralph Harwood, age 73 of Dayton died Friday morning, January 9, 2009 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Rhea County on June 6, 1935 and lived in Dayton most of his life. He was a graduate of Rhea Central High School class of ’52 and served his country with the US Army. Billy Ralph retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad and then for several years was employed with Adaptable Air Products. He was a member of Spivey United Methodist Church and a loving husband, dad and granddad.
Billy Ralph was preceded in death by his two brothers, Leroy and Douglas Ramey, mother, Nona Ramey, step-father, Roy Ramey and his Aunt Bess Harwood.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Faye (Burton) Harwood, his son, William (Amanda) Harwood of Dayton, five sisters, Ruth (Colman) Harvey of Hixson, Shirley Sequin of Atlanta, GA, Judy Wise and Marie Oswald both of Hendersonville, NC, Betty (Bill) Martin of Hixson, brother, James (Delores) Harwood of Evensville and grandchildren, Starlyn Kerley Harwood of Spring City, Megan and Katelyn Harwood of Dayton and Brooke Morley of Dayton.
Funeral services for Billy Ralph will be held Sunday afternoon at 5:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Claude Pendergrass officiating. Graveside services and burial with military honors will take place Monday morning at 11:00am in Rhea Memory Gardens.
The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Sunday after 2:00 pm.
