Betty Jean Wilson

March 16, 1935 — April 18, 2015

Betty Jean Wilson, age 80 of Hoover, AL, passed into God’s hands Saturday, April 18, 2015.
She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was born to Tommy and Pauline (Bandy) Travis on March 16, 1935 in Dayton, TN. She grew up in Rhea County and graduated from Rhea County High School. She then went on to work as a switchboard operator at South Central Bell before marrying and devoting her life and time to her family at home. She valued making memories and spending time with her family and friends, cooking and traveling with her husband to their favorite place in the Tennessee Mountains. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her warm, kind hearted, loving spirit and was a wonderful example of grace, faith and love.
She is survived by her husband of 59 cherished years, Richard Franklin Wilson, five children, Richard (Debbie) Wilson of Spring City, TN, Melanie (Conrad) Parker of Hoover, AL, Greg (Kristy) Wilson of Duluth, GA, Jennifer (Jimmy) Whatley of Hoover, AL and Dawn (Jim) Rowell of Hoover, AL, ten grandchildren, Shannon (Brad) Hamilton, Cole Wilson, Carlie Wilson, Dusty (Heather) Falls, Kara (Brad) Brackett, Madison Wilson, Kelsey Wilson, Jamie Rowell, Will Rowell and Matthew Whatley and five great-grandchildren, Reese Hamilton, Ramsey Hamilton, Gracie Falls, Easton Falls, Caleb Jones and Mason Brackett, three brothers Kenneth Travis of Crossville, TN, Tommy (Sue) Travis of Dayton, TN and Donald (Andrea) Travis of Centerville, VA and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 3:00 p m at the South Dayton Church of God with Rev. Darryl Smith, Rev. Carroll Bandy and Rev. Jewel Travis officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 p m to 3:00 p m at the church.
She will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens, followed by a white dove release.
Pallbearers will be Dusty Falls, Matthew Whatley, Will Rowell, Cole Wilson, Brad Brackett and Brad Hamilton.
