Betty Mae Simpson, age 79 of Grandview, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2021 at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga. She was born on October 12, 1942 in Spring City, TN, the daughter of the late Ernest McBay and Flora Ann (Cooley) McBay. Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Simpson; her children, Barry Simpson, Mike Simpson and Flora “Sissy” Simpson; her brothers, Floyd McBay, Levoid McBay and Roy McBay; her sister, Sarah Ann Hulgan; and her step mother, Mildred McBay.
Betty lived in Grandview since the early 90’s and previously lived in Wolf Creek. She was a Spring City High School graduate, Class of 1961. Betty worked for La-Z-Boy in the customer service department for over 30 years. She was a member of the Post 203 American Legion past Department President, past State of Tennessee Department President and also Unit 203 1st Vice President. Betty was one of the volunteer drivers for the Veterans bus, taking them to their doctor’s appointments. She was a member of the Light House Senior Center in Spring City, and a member of the Christian Fellowship Church in Grandview. Betty enjoyed playing Bingo, traveling and shopping, but most of all she loved being with her family and her faithful companion Nosey.
She is survived by her daughter, Robin (Richard) Barcus of Grandview; her son, Thomas Simpson of Grandview; four grandchildren, Mitchell (Heather) Simpson of Grandview, Susan Barcus of Jamestown, OH, Stacie Barcus of Jamestown, OH, and Holly Holman of Evensville; and daughter-in-law, Jackie Simpson of Anderson, IN.
Funeral services for Betty will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church in Grandview Mtn. with Rev. James Saunders officiating. She will be laid to rest at Johnson Stand Cemetery in Grandview Mtn.
