Betty Pelfrey

June 26, 1935 — May 9, 2008

Betty Pelfrey, age 72 of Evensville went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday, May 09, 2008 at home. Betty was born in the Pennine Community of Rhea County on June 26, 1935 the daughter of the late Lee and Flossie (Newby) Couch. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Hubert Pelfrey and her sister, Fay Douglas.

Betty lived all of her life in Rhea County where she was a wonderful pastor’s wife, mother, grandmother and home maker. She was a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church, Richland Park Senior Citizens, American Legion auxillary, was one of the original singers at McDonalds and she loved to travel.

She is survived by her two daughters, Pat (Jim) Monday of Evensville, Kathy Schuler of Harriman; her son, Ronnie (Anna) Pelfrey of Soddy-Daisy; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; six sisters, Francis (Charles) Pelfrey of Evensville, Ruby (Paul) Ezell of Spring City, Dora (Leroy) Meadows of Decatur, Sue (Ben) Browder of Decatur, Barbara (Tommy) Manning, and Nancy Shaw of Pulaski, TN; six brothers, Red (Gail) Couch of Dayton, Leon (Ava) Couch of Chattanooga, Don (Betty) Couch of of Benton, James Couch of Dayton, Robert Couch of Chattanooga and Eddie (Donna) Couch of Calhoun, GA.

Funeral services for Betty will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Roger Rothwell officiating. Burial will be next to her husband in Smyrna Cemetery in Evensville followed by a white dove release.

The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home where they will receive friends Saturday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm.
