Betty Jane Brown, age 89 of Louisville, TN, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Northshore Heights Assisted Living in Knoxville. She was born in Dayton, TN, on August 11, 1933, the daughter of the late Charles Lee Ward and Ruby (Walker) Ward. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Victor Earl Brown, Sr.; three sons, Randell Brown, Gregory Alan Brown, and Charles Steven Brown; her two brothers, C. E. Ward and Arvil Ward; and her sister, Ruth Motes.
Betty lived in Dayton until 1963 when she moved to Chattanooga. Betty graduated from Rhea Central High School, where she was a member of the basketball team. She received her Bachelor and Master’s degrees in education from UTC. She was a school teacher for over 30 years at Ringgold Elementary School in Georgia. She was an avid Tennessee Vols fan, enjoyed farming and gardening, loved being with children all her life, and enjoyed traveling. She attended Chattanooga First Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Betty is survived by her son, Victor “Earl” (Judy) Brown, Jr., of Louisville, TN; her five grandchildren, Victor III (Tami), Renee (Brandon), Veronica, Alan, and Dana; her five great-grandchildren; her two brothers, Bobby (Carolyn) Ward of Graysville and Felix (Debbie) Ward of Dayton Mountain; her two sisters, Naomi Davis of Sevierville and Linda (David) Hanon of Ringgold, GA; and her sister-in-law, Frances Ward.
Funeral services for Betty will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Rusty Williams officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Cranmore Cove Cemetery in Dayton immediately following the funeral service.
