Bernard Johnson Bishop, age 93, of Dayton passed away April 9, 2018 at his home. Bernard was born August 1, 1924 to the late Dave Finley and Gladys (Brady) Bishop. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Nola (Fraley) Bishop, his son Ray Bishop, granddaughter Stacey (Bishop) Lee, son-in-law Mickey Day and nine brothers and two sisters.
Bernard lived in Rhea County all of his life. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and retired from Suburban Manufacturing Co. His favorite past times were spending time with his family, gardening, working in the yard and sitting on the front porch in his rocking chair waving to the people passing by. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church for 70 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Joyce (Sherman) Moore of Dayton; granddaughters Robin (Dwight) Gravett, Tana Bishop, and Felicia Shelton; great-grandchildren, Cody Gravett, Daylee Gravett, Konner Bishop, Kaylee Wallace, Tori Smith, Sydni Lee and great-great-granddaughter Addison Newman; several brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, along with special niece and nephew, Jo Adams and Don Bishop, and his best friend, Rev. Bill Treadway, who will conduct his service.
Funeral services for Bernard will be held Thursday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Treadway officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the Brown Cemetery, followed by a white dove release.
