Barbara L. Snyder went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday March 4, 2007 from her home in Silver Spring, MD. She was born in Plymouth, IN, the daughter of the late Peter and Glenna (Williams) Tanis. She was also preceded in death by her brother Peter Tanis.
Barb attended Bryan College in Dayton, TN, then Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. She was a music teacher in her early years while living in Sioux City. Barb lived in Dayton, TN from 1982 until 1997. In 1993 Barb ran for the Tennessee 4th Congressional District with the United States House of Representatives. While living in Dayton, Barb was the owner of Coldwell Banker Snyder Properties, member of the Sertoma Club, former Vice- President of the Rhea County United Way, former President of the Rhea County Board of Realtors, Rhea County Realtor of the Year, was a columnist for the Tennessee Association of Realtors and served on the public relations committee with the State of Tennessee Board of Realtors. Barb attended Grace Bible Church in Dayton and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga.
In 1997 Barb moved to Silver Spring, MD where she was an associate broker and VP of training services in MD and DC with Llewellyn Realtors. Barb was a member of Greater Capital Area Association of Realtors and served on the State of Maryland Contract and Clause Committee. Barb sang with the National Christian Choir for four years both in concerts and recordings and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Atonement.
Barb is survived by her husband of 43 years, Stephen Snyder of Silver Spring, MD., her sons, Daniel (Tracee) Snyder of GA and David (Donna) Snyder of Dayton, TN, her daughters, Rachel (Wade) Ortego of MD and Sarah (Ryan) Johnson of MI, and her six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Presbyterian Church of the Atonement in Silver Spring, MD. Tuesday from 4:30pm until 7:30pm.
Funeral services for Barb will be held Tuesday at 7:30pm at the Presbyterian Church of the Atonement in Silver Spring, MD with Rev. Curtis Young officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:30pm until 7:30pm in Rudd Chapel of Bryan College in Dayton, TN.
Funeral services for Barb will be held Thursday at 7:30pm in the Rudd Chapel of Bryan College with Rev. Carter Johnson officiating. Graveside services and burial will be Friday at 10am in Rhea Memory Gardens followed by a white dove release.
Memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN in honor of Rachel (Snyder) Ortego.
