Barbara Burnett King, 99, of Knoxville, TN, went home to be with the Lord on August 29, 2008, at the Courtyard Assisted Living Home in Dayton, TN
Barbara was born in Knoxville on July 13, 1909, to the late George Lafayette and Anna Miller Burnett. She lived in Knoxville most of her life, and was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Ruth Burnett Bolin and Joy Burnett McEver, and brother Richard Burnett and by her husband of 61 years, William Doyle King, prominent lawyer, state legislator and member of the county court system.
She is survived by her son, Andrew (Ann) King of Knoxville, her daughters, Judith King (James) Barth of Dayton, TN Martha King (Mickey) Park of Birmingham, AL and Joy King of Knoxville. She is also survived by the only other living member in the family of her generation, her sister-in-law, Betty King Thompson of Cleveland, TN and a special friend of the family, Iris Codella of Miami, FL.
Surviving are her ten grandchildren, Judith Park Barber, Jane Park Delaney, Nathan Park and Elizabeth Park Stockli of Birmingham, AL, Jennifer Park Cochran of Huntsville, AL, Anna Barth Tromanhauser of Dayton, TN, Irving Barth of Atlanta, GA, Lisa Barth Stewart of Cleveland, TN, Amy Barth Margraff of Columbus, OH and Alan Barth of Michigan City, IN. She is also survived by thirty-two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and by many nieces and nephews.
Besides being a loving mother and friend to many, she was an accomplished musician, serving as church organist and pianist since she was thirteen years old. Her musical training was with Mrs. Iverson Graves of Knoxville, and she was a contemporary of Miss Evelyn Miller. She was a charter member of The Knoxville Music Study Club and The Tuesday Morning Music Study Club. She taught piano to beginning and advanced students. She and her husband owned and operated the Furniture Corner for 30 years. She was a member of the Berean Bible Church of Knoxville.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton and in Knoxville at the Berry Funeral Chapel Wednesday from 11:00 to 1:00 pm with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm with the Reverend John Stone and Rev. Mickey Park officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
