Authur Gary Snyder

Authur “Gary” Snyder, age 76 of Dayton, passed away at his home on Monday, November 20, 2023. He was born in Chattanooga on July 10, 1947, the son of Authur William Snyder and Virginia Lee (Thompson) Snyder. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Gardenhire; his brother, Stanley Snyder; and his son, Authur Gary Snyder II.

Gary lived in Dayton most of his life, was a union steward, and was employed by the City of Chattanooga for 44 years as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jackie (Dotson) Snyder of Dayton; his children, Mark Snyder of Chattanooga, Timothy “Todd” Snyder, Pamela Hayes, and Sherry (Elvert) Shelton, all of Dayton; his five grandchildren, Jessa Green, Brittany Bunch, Coy (Amanda) Hayes, Josh Hayes, and Emily Hayes; and his five great-grandchildren, Jaslene Green, Annamarie Bunch, Xander Hayes, Oliver Hayes, and Benjamin Hayes. He is also survived by his brother, Las Snyder of Dayton and his two sisters, Judy Masters of Chattanooga and Karen Newman of Pensacola, FL.

Funeral services for Gary will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Jimmy Potter officiating. He will be laid to rest in Brown Cemetery after the service.
