Armon Joe Douglas McKinney Sr. son of James Arlen and Elizabeth Jane Aslinger, McKinney, was born May 11, 1925 at Five Points, Sale Creek, Tennessee. He received his education in the school at Sale Creek, Tennessee. He served with the US Navy toward the end of WWII.
On December 3, 1947 he was married to Cora Conn. They later divorced. He was later married to Ellen Alicia Prickett, who died on November 16, 1998. Armon was a trucker for Kroblin Trucking for many years prior to retiring in 1982. He had been a longtime member of the Teamsters Union.
He lived in Sumner, Independence and Dundee, Iowa before returning to Sale Creek, TN.
Due to ill health, he returned to Iowa and made his home for a time with his daughter in Fayette, and most recently, with his granddaughter in Elgin. His death occurred at his grandaughter’s home in Elgin on Wednesday morning, December 13, 2006. He was 81 years old.
He is survived by one son, A.J. (Robbie) McKinney of Sumner, one daughter, Arlene (Dennis) Vandersee of Fayette, five grandchildren, Kimberly (Randy) Olson of Elgin, Katherine (Joe) Sell of Omaha, Nebraska, Bernice (Todd) Jones of St. Peter, Minnesota, Leah McKinney of Waterloo, and Nathan McKinney, seven great grandchildren, Michael and Steven McAllen, Lukas and Ryan Olson, Matthew and Andrew Sell and Lexi Jones, five brothers, Eldon McKinney of Bakersfield, California, Owen (Doris) McKinney of Pinson, Tennessee, Wendell McKinney of Spring City, Tennessee, Kenneth (Mona) McKinney of Soddy, Tennessee and Creed (Nadine) McKinney of Richmond, Virginia,
two sisters, Betty Chester of Dayton, Tennessee and Nora (Ed) King of Sale Creek, Tennessee, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his wife Ellen, he was preceded in death by one son, Paul Franklin “Frank”
McKinney, his parents and three sisters, Katherine Hardy, LaRue Howard and Wilma Woodall.
Funeral services for Armon will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at 11am in the funeral home chapel with Mr. Don Quinn officiating. Burial with full military honors followed by a white dove release will be in Rhea Memory Gardens.
The family is being served by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service.
