Anna Mae Reed Coleman, age 72, of Dayton and formerly of Soddy-Daisy, died Sunday morning, January 30, 2011 at Hospice of Chattanooga.
She was born December 21, 1938 to Guy and Effie Mae Reed in Crab Orchard, TN. She was the fifth great-granddaughter of Lovett Reed, a Revolutionary War veteran who was a pioneering settler in the area known as Bear Den where present-day Bledsoe, Rhea and Cumberland Counties adjoin.
Mrs. Coleman moved to Hamilton County with her family as a teenager in 1954. She played on the girls’ basketball team at Soddy-Daisy High School, before she graduated in 1956.
She worked at Provident Insurance Company from 1956 to 1967 before becoming a full-time homemaker and mother to two. She worked at the Soddy-Daisy Junior High School cafeteria for several years and became a cafeteria manager in the Hamilton County School System, where she worked for more than 20 years.
Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her father, Guy Allen Reed and mother Effie Mae Reed, her sister Caroline Jane Reed Walker and brother Eddie Dean Reed.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years Donald Francis Coleman of Dayton, son and daughter-in-law Rev. Wade Francis Coleman and Marian Dabney Coleman of Bryan-College Station, TX, son Lance Christopher Coleman of Maryville, TN, sisters Betty Sue Reed of Dayton and Margaret Reed Harvey of Spencer, brothers J.E. Reed of Chattanooga, Chester Allen Reed and Billy Joe Reed, both of Soddy-Daisy, cousin Dallas Reed of Grandview, TN, sister-in-law Joyce Ford of Pickens, SC, five grandchildren, Joshua, Christopher, Micah, Cara Beth and Noah Sergio Stephen Coleman, all of Bryan-College Station, TX.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm with funeral services following at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, TN with funeral services following at 7:00 pm. Private burial services will be Wednesday morning at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the building fund of Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCA). Officiating at the services will be Rev. Carter Johnson and Rev. Wade Coleman.
