Anna Irene Umlauf, age 100, a longtime resident of Douglasville, GA, passed away Saturday morning, November 16, 2019 in Chattanooga, TN. She was born on May 15, 1919 in Pleasant Hill, TN, the daughter of the late Fred and Anna Mae (Paige) Abston. Irene was also preceded in death by her dearly loved grandchild, Kim Umlauf.
Irene and her family soon moved to Harriman, TN, where she lived until her teen years. Her family then moved to Graysville, TN in the mid 1930’s, where she met and married her husband Arthur Edward Umlauf. In the 1950’s they moved to Michigan where they raised their two children. Irene worked in the Detroit area as a Medical Lab Technician and X-Ray Technician until her family moved to Douglasville, Georgia in 1969, where she resumed her career in the Medical Field as a Lab Technician and Medical Office Manager for Dr. D. T. Strickler and later Dr. Shroff and Desai. She moved to Chattanooga in 2015. Irene enjoyed visiting her family members as well as her Seventh - Day Adventist church family. She also enjoyed working, cooking and socializing.
She is survived by her two children, Edward Dwayne (Lisa) Umlauf of St. Augustine, FL and Donna Arlene Dodson of Ringgold, GA; her grandson, Donald (Stacy) Bunch of Lawrenceville, GA; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild of which all brought her much joy in her later years.
Funeral services for Irene will be held Tuesday at 12:00 noon in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Russ Jenson officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Arthur Edward Umlauf in Pleasantview Cemetery in Graysville, TN.
