Alvin Arndt Jacobsen

April 14, 1920 — April 15, 2014

Alvin Arndt Jacobsen, age 94, of Dayton, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Kentucky. He was born April 14, 1920 in Chicago, IL to the late Hjalmar and Nellie (Staalesen) Jacobsen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (Burg) Jacobsen; brother, Harry Jacobsen and sister, Thelma Jacobsen.
A resident of Chicago most of his life, Alvin graduated from Calumet High School and from Northwestern College in Chicago with a business degree. He was self-employed as a real estate agent and broker. Alvin enjoyed traveling, fishing, swimming, telling jokes and playing Skip-Bo. He attended Grace Bible Church and First Baptist Church in Dayton and Davidson Baptist Church. Alvin was a member of LaGrange Bible Church for many years.
Alvin is survived by his children, Linda (Terryl) Roddy of Dayton, Larry Jacobsen of Dayton, Joyce (Mitchell) Lockard of Hazard, KY and Norman (Lucy) Jacobsen of Mokena, IL; his 10 grandchildren, Michael and Ryan Roddy, Jackie Hutto and Whitney Jacobsen, Jennifer Wyrick, Teresa Barker, Deanna Davis and Roy Barker and Rick and Jim Jacobsen; his four great-grandchildren, Skylar Wyrick, Laney and Riley Davis and Evan Jacobsen and his one brother Jordan (Thelma) Jacobsen of Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral services for Alvin will be Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Milton Knox and Dr. Doug Russell officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in Rhea Memory Gardens.
