Al West Jr.

Allison “Al” Barry West, Jr., age 80, passed away peacefully at his home late Thursday, October 31, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Al was born in Rome, Mississippi on December 10, 1932 to the late Allison B. and Mildred (Stillions) West.
Al was married 61 years to his high school sweetheart, Peggy (Sexton) West. He was a member of Garrison Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He served as Director of Purchasing and Personnel and Plant Superintendent at Suburban Manufacturing Company for 18 years before he and Peggy became owners of West True Value. In February of 1995, he became the first Rhea County E911 Director until he retired.
Al is survived by his wife Peggy West of Dayton, his four children Vicki (Mike) Massengill, Barry (Brittany) West, Cindy (Les) Roddy, all of Dayton and Randy (DeeDee) West of Newport, TN, his eight grandchildren, Alyson Rice, Angie King, Ally West, Josh Roddy, Megan Owensby, Brandee Sawyer, Charlie West and Darcy West, and his seven great-grandchildren Mollie, Briley, Brady, Gracie, Lyla, Bo and Audrey and his sisters Nancy (Charles) Beam of Dayton and Sherrie (Philip) Wakefield of Florence, AL.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2 at Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Breeden officiating.
He will be laid to rest Sunday in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton.
