Jewell Greer Ray, age 80 of Dayton died Saturday morning, May 26, 2012 in Dunlap. Jewell was born in Moscow, TN on October 16, 1931 the son of the late Jewell and Josie (Greer) Ray. He was also preceded in death by his son Larry Dale Ray who died November 18, 2011.
He served his country in the US Army for three years and lived most of his life in Memphis where he was a police officer retiring as a chief inspector after 25 years. He then was chief of security at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis for ten years. A resident of Dayton since 1996, he was a member of the Sale Creek Independent Presbyterian Church where he currently was a deacon.
Jewell is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty (Gray) Ray of Dayton, his son, Alan (Margot) Ray of Stockton, CA, grandson, Daniel Ray of San Francisco, CA, granddaughter, Laura Ray of Sacramento, CA and his sister, Barbara Bird of Spring City.
Funeral services for Jewell will be held Monday morning at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel with his pastor, Rev. Phil Evaul officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his son in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Soddy with military honors.

The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm until 4:00pm.
