Martha Christine Travis, age 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Monday, November 21, 2016 at her home in Dayton. She was born May 30, 1934 in Rocky Mount, NC to the late David and Nannie (Perry) Nelms.
Christine grew up in Rocky Mount before meeting her husband, Rev. Jewell Travis. They married in 1953 and went on to pastor churches in cities all throughout Tennessee, including Morristown, Pulaski, Donelson, Lawrenceburg, Chattanooga, and in Dayton. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and serving in the Church. She was a member of the Dayton Church of God.
Christine is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Rev. Jewell Travis of Dayton, in addition to her three children, Becky (Fred) Fuller of Candler, NC, Lynn (Suzanne) Travis of Dayton, and David (Crystal) Travis of Sevierville, TN. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Brian (Kristen) Fuller of Jonesborough, Casey Fuller of Nashville, Courtney Travis of Sevierville, Chase Travis of Myrtle Beach, SC, Dalyn Travis, Katelyn Travis, and Kendall Travis, all of Dayton; in addition to her 3 great-grandchildren, Erin Fuller, Kaeo Travis, and Braxton Travis. Christine is also survived by her brothers, J.D. Nelms, Charles (Tonya) Nelms, Pete (Cathy) Nelms, all of Rocky Mount, NC, and Johnny (Linda) Nelms of Morristown.
A funeral service for Christine will be held Friday, at 7:00 PM at her church, Dayton Church of God, with Pastor Lane Davis, Pastor Darryl Smith, and Pastor Donnie Fine officiating. She will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens.
